Umarell

Hands clasped tight behind my back
	Why yes I’m back

		Lovely morning, nice and crisp
		Sweet surrender sledgehammer bliss

			Like scaffolding
			I’m never folding

				Not until the jobs done
Not until I’ve had my fun

					Tall, protective, catching debris
What am I drinking? Black tea

If I ever did look away
Or if I weren’t here everyday

							Who knows what would sway
Change might even decide to stay

But no I’m busy noting every single
								Detail every nail and shingle

									Every pour and every haul
That right there’s a load bearing wall

										Elbows up against guard rail
Oh what it’s like to live full scale

											I’m watching it
											They’re botching it

												Cold rusted beautiful afternoon
Plenty a plank placed too soon
